Mildred C. (Dunford) Palermo, age 84, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014, at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center. Born in Erie, on January 25, 1930, she was a daughter of the late James and Myrtle (Miller) Dunford.

Before her retirement in 1995, she was a Support Hearing Officer at the Erie County Court House, where she held a successful settlement rate of 98%. Every year, for over 50 years, she and her late husband Joseph, hosted a St. Joseph Feast Day dinner at their home, on March 19, along with hosting Sunday dinners for their entire family.

Irish by birth, she was very proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed playing bocce, crocheting, and was a fan of the New York Yankees. Her most important love was for her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with other children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 66 years, Joseph D. Palermo, Sr., who died in 2009; a great-grandchild, Vinnie Palermo, III; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Pearl Dunford; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Edward Peplinski; a nephew, Eddie Peplinski; and a niece, Carol Palermo.

Survivors include her children: Joseph D. Palermo, Jr. and Rea, Cathy DiCarlo and Denny, Patty Theiss and Thom, all of Erie, Vinny and Iluminada, Dr. Rosanne Palermo and Dr. Kirk Steehler, Bev Palermo and Tickle Wolfgang, Angela and Dr. Ruthann Lipman; grandchildren: Joseph Palermo III, Jesse Palermo and Ashley Dinger, Katie Palermo, Tina and Garrett Geib, Lisa DiCarlo, Chris "Buck" DiCarlo, Karrie and Bobby Simon, Julie Santana and Drew Boyles, Sam and Meg Santana, Joshua Santana and Ashley Davis, Tricia Theiss and Matt Harned, Melissa Hinkle and her late husband Andy, Vincent Palermo II, Ashley Nuse, Lisette Ortiz, Gloria and Lamont Robinson, Marcelino "Pito" Rivera, Michael Olivo and Kayla Baughman, Atty. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a prayer service there Thursday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph / Bread of Life Community, at 10 o'clock. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
