Betty Jean Dinger, age 86, of Millcreek, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at the Golden Living Western Reserve Nursing Facility. She was born in Penn Run, Pa. (Indiana County) on February 6, 1928, a daughter of the late Harvey G. and Verdie V. Brown Widdowson.

Betty was an active member of Glenwood United Methodist Church for many years and enjoyed reading and a cup of tea.

In addition to her parent she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Herman S. Dinger in 2013; and four brothers, Clair, Donald, Roy, and Clarence Widdowson.

She is survived by three daughters, Rev. Linda Dinger of Manor, Pa., Brenda Johnson and her husband, John of Millcreek, and Sally Dinger of Millcreek; two grandchildren, Dr. Brian Thurston and his wife, Erika and Carolyn Borland and her husband, Dr. Mark; one great-grandson, Cameron Borland; one sister, Mary Hilliard and her husband, Everett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, PA 16504 on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Glenwood United Methodist Church. Interment will take place in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
