Mildred S. Shepard Blystone, 92, of Lake City, died Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Pleasant Ridge Manor.

She was born on August 21,1922, in Sterrettania, Pa., a daughter of the late Louis and Hattie Platz Shepard.

Mildred graduated from Millcreek High School in 1940. Following high school, she lived in San Pedro, Calif. for a time, and following WWII, returned to the Lake city area on Middle Road, where she resided most of her life. Mildred enjoyed four years at Villa on the Lake in Conneaut, Ohio, until she required the assistance of the caring staff at Pleasant Ridge Manor. She worked at Erie County Infirmary (now Pleasant Ridge Manor), where she was a cook and managed the laundry. Mildred retired early and worked for Loblaws and Brown Brothers. In 1970, she and her family established Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio, and operated it for a period of ten years.

She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Blystone; her son, Gerald "Jerry" Blystone, in 1995; her son-in-law, Jeffery Grettler, in 2010; and by her sisters, Pearl Rooney and Minnie Shephard.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Dorothy E. "Dot" Grettler of Girard; her two granddaughters, April Welsh and her husband, Paul of Hatfield, Pa., Jolene Blystone of Conneaut, Ohio; and her four great-grandchildren, Luke, Eva, Zoe, and Sean Welsh. Mildred will also be sadly missed by Laurie, Jim and Kennedy Pauchel of Ashtabula, Ohio; and also several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard. Services will be held there on Thursday at 10 a.m., with Rev. Brock Beveridge officiating.

Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
