Janet (Hinkle) Malliard, 74, of Lake City, died unexpectedly, on August 25, 2014, at UPMC Hamot.

She was born September 26, 1939, in Erie, a daughter of the late Emerson and Violet (Billings) Hinkle.

Janet was raised and educated in Girard, graduating from Girard High School in 1959. She married Lawrence Malliard following graduation, and worked at Melody Lane Foods in Lake City. She raised her family while working part time, picking fruit and vegetables and babysitting for others.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, scrapbooking, and researching the Malliard family tree.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence G. Malliard Sr. in 2003, whom she married September 27, 1959 in Girard; and also two sisters, Jeanette Cosner and Kathy Burke.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane M. Buffington of Lake City, and Darla L. Appleton of Erie; two sons, David W. Malliard (Carolyn) of East Springfield and Lawrence G. Malliard, Jr. (Judith) of Lake City; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard. Services will be held there on Friday at 10 a.m., with Rev. Byron Gurnee officiating.
