George W. Kormos Obituary

George W. Kormos, age 76, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, on December 17, 1937, a son of the late William and Ann (Stephanic) Kormos.

George worked as a welder at Van Air Systems in Lake City for 30 years, until his retirement in 2003. He enjoyed outdoor sports, especially fishing with his grandsons. George liked to play guitar, sing, and attend classic car shows.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Irene Butchkosky, and a brother, John Kormos.

George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley (Paskowski) Kormos, two sons, William Kormos, wife Doreen of Pittsburgh and Daniel Kormos, wife Missy of Girard; three grandchildren, Jennifer Kormos of Pittsburgh and Andrew and Patrick Kormos of Girard. He is also survived by four sisters, Dorothy Kormos and Ann Kormos, both of Indiana, and Louise and Joanne Kormos, both of Virginia, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Sophie.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial mass at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 West 6th Street, on Friday at noon. Burial is private.
