Chester J. Wawrzyniak, 82 of Erie died Tuesday August 3, 2010 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, May 17, 1928 son of the late Joseph and Josephine Wojtasek Wawrzyniak. Chester was a U.S. Army Veteram of the Korean War. He retired from American Sterilizer. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church, Polish Falcons Nest 123 where he was the recipient of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Legion of Honor medals, Society of Holy Trinity Club, Polish National Alliance and many other social clubs. Chester loved spending time with his grandchildren, bowling and polka dancing. He as preceded in death by sisters, Cecelia Lis and Florence Rogala; and a brother Casimir Wawrzyniak. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Mikolajczak Wawrzyniak, of Erie; daughter, Cheryl Ann Bryan and husband, James of Erie; grandchildren Joseph and Adam Turcovsky, and Christian Bryan; sister Theresa Simonelli, of Erie; brother-in-law, Edward Rogala; sister-in-law, Helen Mikolajczak, of Erie, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 2101 Ash St., on Friday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and may attend a service there Saturday at 9:20 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Members of the Polish Falcons Nest 123 will meet for a Legion of Honor prayer service Friday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
