WESTFIELD - Herbert D. Schultz, age 71, of East Lake Road, Brocton, formerly of Felton Rd., Westfield, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in the town of Portland. Herb was born on December 22, 1938, in Westfield, N.Y., a son of the late August and Margaret (Heider) Schultz, Sr. A Westfield resident all his life, Herb graduated from Westfield Academy in 1957 and earned his bachelor's degree in Agriculture from Cornell University in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963. Herb returned to Westfield and started his grape farm on Martin Wright Road and then purchased the George Ward farms in 1968. He was a member of National Grape Cooperative and Growers Coop. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and Farm Credit and was a strong supporter of Cornell University. Herb was a longtime member of the Deutschmeister Band, having mastered playing the tuba. Herb was well-known for his great sense of humor. He was able to bring family and friends together with his wonderful, loving, joking style. Active in his community, Herb had been a member of the WACS School Board, the Rotary Club, coached "Y" basketball, and coached "T" ball. He and his family hosted several exchange students through both Rotary International and International Fellowship. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #118 and the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion, and had been a member of the JayCee's, all of Westfield. An avid traveler, he and his wife and family had traveled throughout Europe and Mexico. Herb enjoyed all sports and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. However, to sum Herb up, his family was everything to him. He is survived by his wife: Connie L. (Bray) Schultz, whom he married on December 26, 1964 in Ripley, N.Y.; his daughter: Lisa Anne Schultz; his two sons: Herbert Frederick Schultz and Hans David Schultz; his granddaughters, Daisy-Marie Schultz, Mackenzie Lynn Schultz and Drew Lenae Schultz; and his grandson, Nicodemus Alexander Schultz, all of Westfield, N.Y. Herb is further survived by his brother, August F. Schultz, Jr., also of Westfield, N.Y. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Schultz.
