Alice Kinzer Groves, 83, formerly of Edinboro, Pa. went home to be with the Lord on Monday January 17, 2011 at Wesbury Nursing Home in Meadville, Pa. Born July 19, 1927 in LaGrange, Ky., she was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Crutchfield) Kinzer.

Alice taught physical education at James W. Parker Middle School for 23 years, from 1963 until 1986, when she retired, along with her husband, Bill, to Lady Lake, Fla. for 17 years until 2003, when Bill passed away. She moved back to Erie and played golf and tennis six days a week. Alice was very active at Edinboro United Methodist Church for 23 years and then at the Chapel of Christian Faith in Lady Lake, Fla. for 17 years. She sang soprano in the choir at both churches.
Surviving are her children, Harry Groves, wife, Shellie, of Gansevoort, N.Y., Julie Taylor, husband, Bill, of Erie, Melody Graveen, husband, Quince, of Temecula, Calif., and Bill Groves, wife, Lisa, of State College, Pa.; a sister, Ruth Kinzer Hamilton, of Grand Island, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William T. Groves, in 2003; a brother, John Marvin "Jack" Kinzer, Jr.; and a sister, Julia Kinzer Tubbs.
Friends may call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and may attend services Friday at 11 a.m. at Edinboro United Methodist Church, 113 High St., Edinboro, with Rev. Jim Tubbs officiating. Private burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
