Penny Sue Smith Greeted Everyone With A Smile Penny Sue Smith, 26, a resident of Wesleyville, died on Tuesday morning at the St. Vincent Health Center. She had become a quadriplegic due to an accident eight years ago and despite this still had a very active life and always greeted everyone with a wonderful smile. Penny was born in Springville, N.Y. on May 3, 1979 a daughter of Kathy Stolts Smith Kreckel of Wesleyville and the late Jack C. Smith. She moved to the Erie area to live eight years ago. A graduate of Maple Grove High School in the Jamestown, N.Y. area, she also received her NYS Regents Diploma while a patient at the Lake Erie Institute of Rehabilitation (LEIR) with a special ceremony and presentation to recognize her accomplishment. She had worked at Heritage Green for a short period. In addition to her mother, survivors include her step-father Ernest V. Kreckel, Sr.; a brother, Ryan Anderson of Wesleyville; a sister Krista Nomes of Jamestown, N.Y.; a step-brother, Ernest Kreckel, Jr. of Warren, Pa.; an aunt, Brenda Hahn and her husband Clifford of Cabot, Ark.; several cousins, a niece, and two nephews also survive. Friend may call at the new Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, corner of East Gore Rd. and Pine Ave., Saturday 2 PM until service time there at 4 PM officiated by the Rev. George Kennedy. Memorial contributions may be made to Voices for Independence, 3711 W. 12th St., Erie, PA 16505. Interment will be private.
