Robert Edward Dykes, Sr., 59, 928 Buffalo Rd., passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011, at Hamot Medical Center. He was born May 2, 1951, in Erie, son of the late Francis Spearman, Sr. and Mary Dykes Spearman. A lifelong resident of Erie, he was a graduate of Academy High School and received an Bachelors Degree from Edinboro University. He was retired from the Erie School District where he was an engineer after 32 years of service. After retirement, he worked at the Lodge on Sass. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. Robert enjoyed reading the Bible, bowling (was a member of the Soulsville Bowling League), and watching sports and movies on television. He was devoted to his family and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Akins Dykes; and a sister, Frances Bridgette. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Samantha Williams Dykes of Erie; four sons, Robert Edward Dykes, Jr. and wife, Tomica, Phillip A. Dykes, Tony L. Akins, and Barry D. Akins, all of Erie; five daughters, Devonna Johnson of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Tonya Akins, Tamara M. Williams (Mark Hunter), Kenya Morgan (James Brace, Jr.) and LaShanna L. Morgan (Brian Walters), all of Erie; three brothers, Roger Spearman and wife, Sandy and Francis Spearman, Jr., all of Erie, and Johnny Spearman of Harrisburg, Pa.; two sisters, Barbara J. Dykes and Alberta Spearman Reeves, both of Erie; an aunt, Lois Henderson; 28 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m., at Law Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave., and may attend a service on Thursday, 11 a.m., at Word of Life Christian Center, 660 Hess Ave., conducted by Bishop Brock, Pastor of Victory Christian Center. Interment in Lakeside Cemetery.
