Betty D. Franz Obituary
Betty D. Franz, a longtime resident of Wesleyville and Findley Lake, N.Y., passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 24, 2012. She was 93. Betty was born on January 4, 1919 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, daughter of the late Ben F. and Ruth Eness Daniels. Betty was a 1936 graduate of Strong Vincent High School. In the early 1950's she was active as a Cub Scout den mother and then a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed organic gardening, home canning of fruits and vegetables, and bird watching. She was a proponent of nature and wildlife conservation. Later in life, she avidly enjoyed crossword puzzles, including those found in the New York Times and Washington Post. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth H. Franz, on June 24, 1993, and her brother, William A. Daniels, Sr. who passed away on May 30, 2012 at the age of 94. Survivors include her sons, Kent Franz of Silver Spring, Md. and Kirk Franz of Erie; daughters, Joy Franz and Melody Hewitt both of Erie; grandchildren, Kendie Reich (Kevin) of Laurel, Md., Shara Hewitt of Erie, Jason Hewitt (Allison) of Gastonia, N.C. and Kira Brooks of Dublin, Ireland; eight great-grandchildren; one niece and three nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service there at 11:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. Rich Pearson. Interment, Laurel Hill Cemetery.
