Joseph A. Walczak, 86 of Erie died Saturday September 29, 2012 at the Erie VA Medical Center. He was born in Erie June 19, 1926 son of the late Joseph A. and Alice Rawa Walczak. Joe was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He worked at Hammermill Paper Co for 41 years, retiring in 1988, and he served on Erie City Council for 20 years from 1968 to 1988. Joe was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Holy Trinity Ushers Society and was very active in numerous charitable organizations and labor organizations. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Tomczak Walczak, daughter Alice Walczak, sister Frances Matusiak, and brother Norbert Walczak. Survivors include two sons, James and Joseph Walczak (Joann), sister in law Carol Walczak, brother in law Deacon Thomas Matusiak, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2101 Ash St. Tuesday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and may attend a service there Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Members of the Holy Trinity Ushers will meet for a prayer service at the funeral home Tuesday at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Church 2220 Reed St. Erie, PA 16503.
