Elizabeth B. "Betty" Jones age 95, died peacefully at her home on September 30, 2012. She was born November 5, 1916, a daughter of the late Arthur L. Bagans and Edwina Eshlemann Bagans. Betty grew up in Philadelphia, Pa. and graduated from the Pennsylvania School of Horticulture at Temple University. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters; Virginia Evans, Ruth Houston and Edwina Hoover, one daughter Barbara J. Poux and son-in-law John E. Poux. Betty was very active in the Erie community; she served on the first board of the Hospitality House for Women, Erie's first women's shelter. She also volunteered for many years with the American Red Cross, drove for Meals on Wheels and served on the board of H.A.N.D.S. Betty was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband of 72 years, Douglas W. "Deacon" Jones, two sons; David A. (Felicidad) Jones of Fairview and Douglas P. Jones of Erie, two daughters; Betsy J. (Robert) Eisbart of White Marsh, Md. and Barrie J. (Tom) Nolan of Fairview, eleven grandchildren; Marla (Jim) Nix of Silver Spring, Md., Susan (Vini) Espinoza of Washington, D.C., Daniel (Kelly) Jones of Rangeley, Maine, Darren Jones of Chicago, Ill., Diandra Jones of St. Thomas, V.I., David Jones of Raleigh, N.C., Leah (Mark Schiller) Eisbart of San Francisco, Calif., Margot Eisbart of Miami, Fla., Brendan (Meaghan) Nolan of Darien, Conn., Christopher (Johanna Kao) Nolan of Hong Kong and Jessica Nolan of San Diego, Calif. She is further survived by eleven great-grandchildren; Zoe and Ben Nix, Rio and Sky Espinoza, Zachary, Brenten, Madison and Ethan Jones, Mackenzie, Jack and Marykate Nolan, all of them being the recipients of her unconditional love and attention, she will be remembered by them most as an avid reader, gardener, knitter and teacher of crafts and nature. She loved the outdoors, especially the Erie winters and spending time at Presque Isle. A Memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
