James R. "Bob" Crawford Jr., 84 of Girard, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West where he recently resided. He was born on August 29, 1928 in Niles, Ohio, a son of the late Alice Clapp Crawford and James R. Crawford Sr. Bob graduated from Conneaut High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, which became the U.S. Air Force, and was deployed during the occupation of Japan. After his discharge from the military, he returned to Ohio, and upon his marriage, he moved to Cranesville. Bob worked for the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad for 25 years as a Conductor and served as Constable of Conneaut Township for several years. He wintered in Inverness, Fla. for several years before moving to Floral City, Fla., and recently returning to the Albion area. He was a member of the Cranesville Fire Department, the Albion VFW Post #2341 and was an avid bowler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Donald Depinet; his sister, Imogene Crawford; his brothers, Thomas and Norman Crawford; and his brother-in-law, Gerald Crosby. Bob will be deeply missed by his wife, Carol L. Crosby Crawford, whom he married on July 14, 1951 in Cranesville, Pa.; his three daughters, Judith "Judy" Depinet of Sidney, Ohio, Roberta Kalata (Dr. John J.) of Erie and Cheryl "Sherri" Bonnell (Jon) of Girard; his sister, Joanne Haines (Walter) of Titusville, Fla.; grandchildren, James, Donald (Nikki), Christopher, Joel (Desiree), and Justin Depinet, Christopher, Andrew and Jennifer Kalata, and Corey (Mika), Tyler and Jared Bonnell; great-grandchildren, Austin, McKenzie, Porter, Truman and Hayden Depinet, and Kayla Snyder; step-grandchildren, Kaylee and Gavin Cotterman; in-laws, Sherri and Carl Crosby; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Saturday, October 6, from 12 noon until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. Mike Anderson will officiate.
