Betty Jane Washburn, age 87, of Arcadia, Florida, formerly of Erie, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012. She was born in Farrell, Pa. on March 20, 1925, daughter of the late Ralph Powell and Agnes Patterson Annunziata. Betty was a member of Fort Ogden Baptist Church and had been employed as a calibrator with Bliley Electric. She was also a Teacher's Aide and worked on school buses for the DeSoto County School Board. Betty was a former member of Garden Heights Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, where she was a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher and active in the Women's Association. She was also active in Demolay. Besides her family, Betty's devotion was for the kids at Nocatee Elementary School and she enjoyed bowling, cake decorating, knitting and ceramics. Betty is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Washburn; one daughter, Judy Gaadt (Tom) of Erie; three sons, James D. Washburn (Joyce) and Jay R. Washburn (Karen), all of Erie, and Jeff Washburn (Laura) of Lebanon, Tenn.; two sisters, Marge Brown of Ashland City, Tenn. and Isabelle Malda (Bernie) of Bloomingdale, N.J.; one brother, David Annunziata of Erie; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy J. Washburn. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 13th at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant conducted by her nephew, Dr. Daniel Merry.
