Ivan David Belden, 73, of Albion, passed away Friday, October 5, 2012. He was born May 4, 1939 in Albion, son of the late Ivan E. and Hilda (Sutton) Belden. David was a retired United States Navy Veteran, serving from 1957-1977. He then worked for the Albion Police Department, retiring as Police Chief in 1991. David was a lifelong member of the Albion Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Albion Masonic Lodge Scottish Rite where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He spent his winters in Florida, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, crossword puzzles, and he loved his dog. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Anne Belden, on October 13, 2007, an infant son, John Christopher Belden, and a brother, Joseph Belden. He is survived by six children, Bradley Belden and his wife, Joyce, of Bowie, Md., Beth Dunham and her husband, David, of North Kingsville, Ohio, Bryan Belden and his wife, Cheryl, of Goldsboro, N.C., Robert Belden and his wife, Cynthia, of Gambrills, Md., Perry Belden of Albion, Paula Schmalz and her husband, Craig, of Colorado Springs, Colo., two sisters, Nancy Wolfe of Albion and Edith Sablyak of Florida. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and may attend a funeral service there on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Byron Gurnee officiating.
