John A. Tavernese, age 66, of Erie passed away at home on Monday, November 5, 2012. He was born October 9, 1946 in Erie, the son of the late Frank V. and Philomena Cerio Tavernese. John was a 1963 graduate of Strong Vincent High School and also had served with the US Air Force. For 26 years he worked as an independent owner/operator driving semi trucks retiring in 1993.John was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed following both Dale Earnhardts, Junior and Senior drivers. He was also a member of the Fairview American Legion. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Tavernese. John is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Fisher Tavernese; a daughter Yvette Mrozik and her husband Joseph of Deer Park, N.Y.; three stepchildren, Mike Stanley and his wife Vicki; Lori Stanley, and Janet Kuffer and her husband Bill, all of Erie. He is the grandfather of Stephan, Kaitlyn, Shane, Tara, and Brit and is also survived by three great-grandchildren. John is also survived by a brother, Charles Tavernese and his wife Helen of Erie along with nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend Funeral Services there Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery.
