Earl F. Matson, Sr., age 81, of Erie, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Erie on March 26, 1931 a son of the late Ernest and Marian Scherrer Matson. He was a Furnace Operator for Erie Forge and Steel for over 40 years retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Joseph Church/Bread of Life Community, the Wesleyville American Legion, the Moose Lodge and a life member of the Siebenbuerger Club, Sunflower Club and the South Erie Turner's. He is preceded in death by two sons, Thomas and Michael Matson, five sisters, Marie Michaels, Anna Marie Matson, Margaret Holland, Catherine Messina and Mary Ann Stanek and three brothers, Robert and James Matson and Matthew Morell. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeanne Schweitzer Matson; two daughters, Lori Sauers and her husband Joe of McKean and Suzanne Brown and her husband Mike of Albion; three sons, Ernest Matson, Sr. and his wife Jackie of Columbus, Ohio, Earl Matson, Jr and his wife Debbie of Erie and John Matson and his wife Tina of Fairview; two brothers, Norbert Matson and his friend Thelma of Summit and Donald Matson and his wife Barbara of Waterford; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his God-daughter, Donna Metzler of Erie also survive. Friends may call on Sunday at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 Sassafras St., Erie, PA 16502 from 2 p.m. 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to a service there on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church/Bread of Life Community at 10 a.m. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
