Fred Miller, Jr. passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 8, 2012. Fred was born February 5, 1926 in Meadville, Pa. son of the late Fred Eugene and Agnes Laver Miller. He attended school in North Venango. When younger, Fred loved working on the family farm and the Meabon Farm in Wattsburg, Pa. He then had a long and very successful career in the trucking industry. He received a Safe Driver Award for logging over three million miles without incident. Fred drove for United Refining for over 14 years and Hammermill Paper for over 27 years. He also drove for Afton Trucking and Erie Sand and Gravel. Along with his parents Fred was preceded in death by a son, Duane Miller and three sisters. He is survived by his wife Patricia Miller whom he married September 29, 1973; sons Dennis Miller and Kirk Miller of Erie; a step-son James Soder and his wife Joyce of North Carolina; and three other step-children. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren a brother George E. Miller and his wife Anna of Kentucky and a sister Bernice LaQue and her husband Tom of East Springfield. Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.), on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service at 4 p.m. with Rev. Gene Kennett officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
