Alvena Klins McKay, age 100, residing at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Home, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 10, 2012. She was born on October 13, 1912 in Harborcreek, daughter of the late Charles and Edith Coon Klins. Alvena graduated from Harbor Creek High School in 1931 as Salutatorian of her class. She then went on to graduate from the Erie Business College with a diploma in a Secretarial Science Course. In 1980 she graduated from Liberty University with a diploma in a two-year course in General Bible. She was a private secretary for G.E. Central Engineering for six years and later was a secretary for the President of Robison Process Co., a subsidiary of Hammermill Paper Co. for 14 years. Alvena was President of Brookside PTA for two years 1950-52 and served on many committees. She also served on the Board of Regents of Liberty University for four years. She enjoyed traveling, boating, camping, baking, cooking and hospitality. Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Lynn; a daughter, Carol; two sisters, Adelaide Eckman and Mildred Ebner; and two brothers, Robert and Louis Klins. Survivors include one son, Charles McKay (wife Judy); two grandchildren, Christy and Andy McKay; six great-grandchildren, Joseph, Emily, Lindsey, Isabella, Scott and Joshua; one brother, John Klins; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service there at 11 a.m. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
