Edward J. Tarkowski, Jr., age 72, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Saturday, December 29, 2012, after patiently enduring many physical trials throughout his life. He was born in Erie on January 19, 1940, the elder son of the late Edward J., Sr. and Angela LubiakTarkowski. Edward was a teacher of the Word of God and a counselor to many.In his youth, he was a talented baseball player.He started working at the Erie Times News as a paper boy, and worked his way up to Circulation District Manager before having to retire due to disability in 1974. Edward enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports, playing computer games, on-line golf and fishing. Besides his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his son, Edward J. Tarkowski, III. He is survived by the love of his life, Mary Delaney Tarkowski, with whom he celebrated their fifty-first anniversary this past summer. Edward is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Tarkowski, of Erie and Katherine Gross (Jeffrey) of Wesleyville; one son, Thomas Tarkowski (Valerie) of Cochranton, Pa.; one brother, Richard Tarkowski (Beck) of Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada; eight grandchildren, Ben and Tucker Tarkowski, Caralee and Rachel Russell, Madison and Nicholas Gross, and Jason Bailey, all of Erie, and Steven Bailey, of Arizona; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his beloved dog, Zuzu. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Wesleyville Baptist Church, 3509 Buffalo Rd., on Thursday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mark McCallion officiating.Interment, Laurel Hill Cemetery.
