Wilbur "Sam" Nicholson, age 76, of Harborcreek, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013. He was born in Somerset, Pa. on March 21, 1936, son of the late Adam Nicholson and Carrie Mae Countryman Nicholson-Smock. Sam had resided in Erie most of his life. He was co-owner of the family owned Nicholson Trucking Co. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and was a member of Abate. Sam was also a member of American Legion Post #771, the Siebenbuerger Club, Star Club, HuzarClub, Wesleyville Athletic Club and Pulaski Club, and a previous member of the Commodore Perry Yacht Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jean Ericsson Wright Nicholson; two daughters, Carol A. DePalma (John) of Harborcreek and Lela L. Nicholson of Erie; Linda Ganza (raised as a daughter); one son, William S. Nicholson of Erie; two stepsons, Craig T. "Speedy" Wright (Cheryl) and Gene R. "Skip" Wright (Barbara) all of Harborcreek; two brothers, James D. Nicholson (Linda) and Randy Nicholson all of Erie; two sisters, Shari Liebel of Erie and Tami Carrara of Fairview; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Adam G. Nicholson; his step-father, Paul Smock; and son-in-law, Joe Kocker. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road, on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Monday at 10 a.m. conducted by Reverend Al Gesler, Jr. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery.
