John Joseph "Jack" Soeder, age 86, passed away peacefully at Elmwood Gardens on Sunday, January 6, surrounded by his family. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 6, 1926, the only son of the late John and Mamie Homer Soeder. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy in November of 1943, John served on the USS Lunga Point, an escort carrier, until his honorable discharge in March of 1946. John retired from General Electric in 1991 after 26 years of service. Over the next 18 years, he would volunteer more than 7100 hours at the Erie VA Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Anna Mary Frontino Soeder, and by his sisters Delores Lowry, Charlene Finnegan, and Marie Carrabotta. He is survived by his three daughters, Peggy Reynard, Jean Bush and her husband Rick, and Kathy Sculley and her husband Dan. He also has six grandchildren, Stephen Reynard, Mike and Colleen Bush, Matt, Janelle and Sarah Sculley, and four great grandchildren, Gloria, Maemie, Emma and Wyatt. Friends may call on Thursday, January 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at G.R. Bailey Funeral Home, 4396 Iroquois Avenue, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 11 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Mount Calvary R.C. Church at l0 a.m. Burial will be at St. Gregory's Cemetery in North East. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Erie VA Medical Center, Attn. Voluntary Office, Fund #1001, 135 East 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
