Antoun Hanel, age 79, formerly of Erie, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 in Charles Town, West Virginia. He was a resident of Harpers Ferry, W. Va. Born in Czechoslovakia on April 2, 1933, he was a son of the late Joseph and Michaelina (Vecerek) Hanel. From 1952 through 1993, he was employed as a baker with the Firch Baking Company, and from 1993 through 1996, worked for Kaufmann's Department Store. He enjoyed reading and was an avid camper. He particularly liked road trips and one of his favorite destinations was the Great Smokey Mountains. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Else W. (Michaelsen) Hanel, who died in 2003; a step-daughter, Karin Reibel; a son-in-law, Ralph Reibel; a sister, Hildagard Roemer. Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Hanel Radmard, husband Hamid, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; a step-daughter, Renate Brunet, husband Dan, of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren, Sheila McNabb, partner Lynne Gage, of Pottstown, Pa., Sylvia Reibel, Del Ray Beach, Fla. and April Jolly, of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, John Hans Hanel, wife Catherine, of Parma, Ohio; many nieces and nephews in Erie and Parma, Ohio. Friends may call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., at Greengarden Blvd., Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. until the time of a funeral service at 8:30 p.m. Private burial will be in St. Agatha Cemetery, Meadville, Pa.
