Donald J. "Hippie" Carr, 54, of Spartansburg, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born on May 15, 1958, in Erie, Pa., a son of Sarah Carrick Carr of Lincolnville, Pa., and the late Jack A. Carr. Don attended Union City High School. He was employed as an over-the-road truck driver for many years, after which he began working in the lumber industry for Spartywood Industries and later, Coastal Lumber Company until the time of their closing. Most recently, he enjoyed lending a helping hand at the Chase Auction House in Lander, Pa., until his illness prevented him. In addition to his father, Don was preceded in death by two brothers Daniel and Robert Carr and a sister-in-law Lillian Carr. Don is survived by his loving wife, Michelle of Spartansburg, Pa., whom he married on May 19, 2005 in Corry, Pa.; a daughter Heather Cook of Erie, Pa.; grandchildren Jordyn and Cameron of Erie, Pa.; three brothers Michael Carr and his wife Lisa of Spartansburg, Pa., Richard Carr and Dennis Carr both of Lincolnville, Pa.; his father-in-law Michael Csop; and two sisters-in-law Annette Csop of Spartansburg, Pa., and Suzanne Csop of Erie, Pa. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He will be sadly missed by his pets, Jazz and Kid Rock, who remained faithfully by his side. Don was a member of the American Legion LeBaron Post 237 in Union City, Pa., and the Union City Moose Lodge. Special thanks to family and friends who so tirelessly helped us through this difficult time and to Dr. Sedov and the Corry and Warren Oncology staff and Regional Home Health and Hospice of Corry for their expert and compassionate care. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the American Legion Post 237, 1 S. Main St., Union City, Pa. Visitation is from 12 Noon to 1 p.m., with a memorial luncheon to follow. Burial will be private. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Bracken Funeral Home, 211 Mechanic St., Spartansburg, Pa.
