Dorothy T. Kopkowski Kowalski, age 83, of Erie, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, at Forestview Health Center at Springhill. Born in Erie on May 19, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Wanda (Oldakowski) Kopkowski. She was a graduate of Saint Benedict Academy and worked for the City of Erie Police Department, later retiring from the Erie Water Authority in 2000. She volunteered for several years after her retirement for the Regional Cancer Center, Blessed Sacrament School, the Erie School District and Villa Maria Academy. Dorothy was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, and especially enjoyed being with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Kowalski, in 1971, a granddaughter, Mary Frances Coughlin, and two brothers, Stanley and Jimmy Kopkowski. Survivors include a daughter, Karyn Coughlin, husband Butch, of Erie; four grandchildren, Anmarie Rand, husband Wesley, of Concord Township, Ohio, Andrea Coughlin, fiancé Adam Grady, of Erie, Katy Palotas, husband Dan, of Wilmington, Del., and Dan Coughlin III, of St. Louis, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Madeline Rand; a brother, Edward "Edju" Kopkowski and a sister, Wanda "Honey Girl" Mozdy, both of Erie; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a prayer service there Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at Blessed Sacrament Church, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
