Casimir Biernik Obituary
Casimir Biernik, beloved father and friend, age 85, of Erie, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the PA Soldiers & Sailors Home from complications with Alzheimer's disease. He was born October 14, 1927 in Erie, son of the late Samuel and Sophie Tomczak Biernik. Also known as Chuck, Cas, Charlie, Chas, C.S.B., and other nicknames of endearment, he served in the U.S. Navy on the carrier USS Bon Homme Richard for six years during the Korean War. Chuck worked at Amthor Steel and later at General Electric, as a Class A welder. He went on to work at Conrail and retired after 44 years as a switchman and conductor. Charlie was a lifetime member of the Polish Falcons Nest 610. He also belonged to the Moniuszko Club and the Society of the Holy Trinity Club, the American Legion and the VFW Club. Chuck was a sportsman, bowler, golfer and avid crossword aficionado. Chas enjoyed his black Labs and walked many a mile with Onyx and later with Opal throughout Erie and Presque Isle. Czasu came from a close Polish family. Brothers, Louis and Edward "Swaney" and five sisters, Lucy, Rhoda, Harriet and Maizie have predeceased him. Tresa Malesic is his last surviving sibling. In 1952 he married Bernice Lander. Chuck is survived by his children Mark (Lois) and Maria; two grandchildren, Nick and Dave; daughter-in-law Mary Ann; and son-in-law Steven. He will be well missed by those who enjoyed his company.
