John L. Nicolia, Jr. age 73 of Erie, died unexpectedly, Monday, January 14th, 2013, at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie, July 13th, 1939, a son of the late, John and Theresa DiSanti Nicolia. John was currently employed as an Engineer and Maintenance Manager at Zurn Cast Metals and had also worked at Taccone Corp, Weil McLain, Erie Malleable Iron and RD &D. He enjoyed restoring cars with his son. He was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church and a member of the Siebenbuerger Club. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Janet Chanis Nicolia of Erie; one son, John M. Nicolia and his wife Sherry of Erie; one daughter, Nicole Janovick and her husband Michael of Youngstown, Ohio; a granddaughter, Stefana Nicolia and one sister, Anna Marie Scarpino and her husband Richard of Erie. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, godchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins . Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th Street, Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday at Holy Rosary Church, 2701 East Avenue, at 11 a.m. Private burial at Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery. The family ask memorials be made to them as they will be making donations in John's name to a charity to be determined.
