Dorothy Marie Knoll, 91, died peacefully at her residence on January 28, 2013. She was born October 2, 1921, in Erie, a daughter of the late Edmund A. and Ida Mary Illig Knoll. Dorothy was a graduate of St. Joseph Grade School, class of 1935, and Academy High School, class of 1939. She was employed for five years in the Pathology Department of Saint Vincent Health Center. She was later employed as Assistant to the Vice President of Finance at Lord Corporation for over 30 years. Following her retirement from Lord Corporation, she volunteered as the Parish Accountant at Saint Joseph from 1985 to 1995. She enjoyed spiritual reading, travel, sewing, upholstering, crocheting, and gardening. Genealogy was very important to Dorothy and she worked so diligently in tracing her family roots back to the 1700s. Dorothy will be remembered for her great sense of humor and wit, but most especially for her loving dedication to her family, friends, and church. Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by eight brothers, E. Mellitus, Rear Admiral Denys, Rev. Mark CSSR, Aaron A., Hugh Edward, Gregory, Gerald F., and John D. Knoll; and three sisters, Sr. Constance Marie SSJ, Alice Clare, and Emelia Ann Knoll. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Louise Murphy, and Jane Francis Lyons, both of Erie; 36 nieces and nephews, 77 great-nieces and nephews, and 39 great-great-nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1595 West 38th and Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a prayer service there on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Bread of Life Community Church, 147 West 24th Street. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
