C. J. "Jim" Spires, age 85, of Waterford, died unexpectedly, at his residence on Saturday, January 26th, 2013. He was born in Kearsarge, Pa., July 8th, 1927, a son of the late Clarence H. and Mazie Dishinger Spires. Jim was employed as an Engineer with Operating Engineers Local 66, retiring in 1992. He had a love of "antique things," especially antique engines, attending all steam shows between May and October. He was a life member of the Pioneer Steam & Gas Engine Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Kellogg Spires in 2001, by his brothers, Lawrence and Charles Spires and three sisters, Geraldine Murphy, Dorothy, and Margaret Ferris. Survivors include the daughter, Betty Kelley, with whom he made his home; a daughter, Brenda Robison of Erie; stepdaughter, Virginia Vogel (Joseph) of Fairview, Pa.; grandchildren, Justine Robison and Jennie Robison; step-grandchildren, Joseph Vogel, Richard (Joy) Vogel and Laura Vogel; great-granddaughter, Alease Robison and step-great-great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Ethan, and Aline Vogel; his aunt, Laurene Spires and many nieces and nephews. A wake and celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 9th, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Mill Village Fire Hall, 14408 N. Main Street, Mill Village, PA 16427.
