William G. "Bill" Rice, of Albion, formerly of Oil Springs, Ky., passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 at UPMC Hamot, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. While in school, Bill was active in sports, being a star center in basketball. Upon graduating from high school, he followed in his father's footsteps, going into and becoming an icon in the gas and oil fields. In 1963 Bill purchased the first of his many businesses. Before and after his 2003 retirement, he enjoyed watching boxing, hunting, gardening, and especially spending time with his family. His family was the greatest joy in his life. Coming from a small town, he never forgot his roots and always had a story to tell. Bill also took great pride in belonging to the Fraternal Order of the Masons. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one brother, one sister and one son. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Barlett Rice, whom he married April 3, 1980, after a seven year relationship. He is further survived by six children, Wayne Rice and his wife Jeannie, Lillie S. Crockett, Lisa Sexton and her husband Mike, Amy Kelly and her husband Larry, Brenda Rice Logan, Kimberly Rice and her partner John Bach. He is also survived by one dear sister-in-law, Karyl Lynne Noel, as well as his grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley, Robert, Zachary, Kirklin, Dylan, Haley and Nolan, and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Sarah. Calling hours will be held at the Albion Church of the Nazarene, Route 6N, Albion, on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 3-6 p.m., followed by a funeral service there at 6:00 p.m., with Pastor Wayne Hennen officiating. Interment will be in the Rice Family Cemetery, in Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, to help with expenses.
