Glenn R. Lance, 85 of Girard passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born on July 23, 1927 to the late Arthur D. and Anna Jane Donovan Lance in Independence, Ohio. Glenn graduated from Cuyahoga Heights High School in 1945. After Graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy toward the end of WWII, he completed boot camp in the Great Lakes and was stationed in Guam. Following his discharge from the military he worked at the Girard Tannery, then Marx Toy Co. and eventually High Pressure Equipment where he retired as a machinist. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Girard. He sang on the choir for 50 years and was a caretaker for many years at St. John Cemetery. Glenn was also a member at the Girard American Legion Post 494. He was an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan. He enjoyed playing guitar, grilling and gardening. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth H. Sanders whom he married on March 1,1954 in Winchester, Va.; their son Glenn Alan Lance; two sisters Mary Simkovich, and Darlene Hohne; and two brothers Arthur and John Lance. He will be missed by his three sons; Dennis L. "Butch" Lance and his wife Kathy of Girard, Ronald F. Lance and his wife Deborah of Girard, Raymond A. Lance and his wife Lynnette of Millcreek; his two sisters, Patricia Golnik and her husband David of Wooster, Ohio, Eileen Shreve and her husband, Cal of Richmond, Va.; his brother, David Lance and his wife, Ruth of Fayetteville, N.C.; his eight grandchildren Melissa Yuhas, Jeff Lance, Krista Soudan, Cory Lance, Stephen Lance, Brian Lance, Aaron Lance, Meghan Titov, Arianna Kopkowski; six great grandchildren, Alicia and Courtney Lance, Josh and Logan Yuhas, Madison Soudan, Carter Lance and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. A prayer service will be held there on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Rev. William Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
