Mary Rita Kirk, age 87, of Erie passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Erie's Presbyterian Lodge. She was born July 3, 1925 in Erie the daughter of the late Cecil and Ruth Weindorf Kirk. A lifelong resident of Erie, Mary Rita worked for Erie's General Telephone Co. for 41 years retiring in 1985. She was a longtime member of St. Andrew Catholic Church where she belonged to their Women's Guild and helped to start their food pantry. She was also an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the VNA Hospice. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James R. Kirk and Rev. John A Kirk. Mary Rita is survived by a brother, Dr. William Kirk and his wife Jean of Williamsport, Pa.; and a sister-in-law, Jane Kirk of Erie. She is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, McKean. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew & St. Jude Food Pantry, 1116 W.7th St., Erie, PA 16502.
