Randy Boone Greaves, age 72, of Erie passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family just days shy of his 73rd birthday. He was born February 23, 1940 in Erie, the son of the late Paul and Thelma Boone Greaves. Randy was a graduate of East High School and for 30 years proudly served on the City of Erie Fire Department, a hero on many occasions. He retired in 1998 from the South Central station and Tower 1 ladder truck. He was an avid boater and had an unsurpassed love of the water and marina life. Randy loved people and belonged to several social clubs including being the vice president of the South Erie Turners. There you could find him with his cigar, that booming voice and signature laugh filling the room. He was also quite a sports enthusiast, always checking the scores. Besides his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his first wife, June Loper Greaves; and by five brothers, Richard, Ronald, Raymond, Robert, and Paul Greaves, Jr. Randy is survived by his wife, Cindy Hess Greaves; a son Ryan Greaves and Karrie Krysiak; a daughter Renee Greaves; and a sister, Joan Prylinski and her husband Tom, all of Erie. He is further survived by his stepchildren, Lisa Mello and her husband David, and Michelle Blount and her husband Mark along with four step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog and ever faithful companion, Cody. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Saturday from 4 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. at which time funeral services will be held with Msgr. Dan Arnold officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Metropolitan Erie, 202 E.10th St., Erie, PA 16503.
