Walter Soliwoda, Jr., age 84, of Erie, passed away, Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Erie, Pa. on April 15, 1928, son of the late Walter and Frances Soliwoda, Sr. Walter was a member of St. Luke R.C. Church. He was employed with PennDot for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He was affectionately known as "Salty" or "Sonny" to his family and friends. Walter was a former President of AFSCME Local #2100 Union and Vice President of AFSCME Retirees Local #8503. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and traveling. Walter is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Soliwoda; one son, Lee Matz (Diane); one brother, Robert Soliwoda (Sue); two grandchildren in Erie, Rob Matz (Erin) and Abby Panutos (Jay) and two in Nevada; great-grandchildren in Erie, Dylan, Amber, Chloe, Reilly and Hannah; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death bytwo sons, Ronald and Anthony Soliwoda; one sister, Shirley Yurcak and two brothers, Donald and Norbert Soliwoda. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Monday at 10 a.m. Interment, Calvary Cemetery.
