David Leroy Lawson, 73, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday February 27, 2013 surrounded by his family at Ball Pavilion. He was born in Erie on August 22, 1939 a son of the late John Cobham Lawson and Anne Youschak Lawson. David graduated from Strong Vincent High School where he participated in track and earned his Associate Degree from Behrend College in June 1974. David served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve Fourth Truck Company in Erie and received an Honorable Discharge in 1966 with the rank of Corporal E4. He was employed by Welch's through 1965 and later at Zurn Industries from 1965 until his retirement in 2008 as a Design Engineer. He was instrumental in several patents at Zurn Industries. David believed strongly in prayer for others, whether at work or anyone that was hurting. He loved going to his church at Assembly of God in North East where he and his wife were members. Later when he could no longer attend because of illness, he always wanted to know when he and his wife could go to church. David and his wife enjoyed traveling extensively in the U.S., Canada, and Poland where they went on a mission trip in 2006. Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 wonderful years whom he married on July 10, 1965 at the First Baptist Church of Erie, Henrietta Mankowski Lawson; two sons, David S. Lawson and his wife Christina of Girard and Kevin T. Lawson and his wife Terri of Erie; grandchildren, Monica, Katelyn, and Elaina Lawson of Girard and Alex and Ansley Lawson of Erie; two step-grandchildren, Jake and Lacie Landon of Ripley, N.Y.; and one brother, Donald R. Lawson and his wife Sandy of Hemet, Calif. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday morning at the Assembly of God North East, 2025 Orchard Beach Rd., North East, Pa. from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services there at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Assembly of God, 2025 Orchard Beach Rd., North East, PA 16428.
