Mary A. Hicks Crockett, age 79, of Erie, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Prentiss, Miss. on February 7, 1934, daughter of the late James and Evelean Hooker Hicks. She was a resident of Erie for 64 years, moving to Erie with her husband. She attended Prentiss Institute in Prentiss, Miss. She retired from Hamot Medical Center after 42 years of service. She was previously employed at Doctors Osteopathic Hospital, Zurn Industries and Buffalo Molded Plastics. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Mary enjoyed playing bingo and was an avid LA Lakers fan. She worked very hard to provide for her family and will be greatly missed. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Crockett; daughters, Linda Crockett Carson and Joyce Arrington; sisters, Fannie Bryant and Mary Wells; brothers, James A. Hicks, Jr., Charles Hicks and Vicky L. Hicks. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, James R. Crockett and wife Joann of Brandon, Miss. and Stevie R. Crockett of Erie, Pa.; a daughter, Cynthia Barney and her fiancé Terry Williams of Erie, Pa.; seven sisters, Frankie Corsey and Marie Lee, both of Erie; Jennetta Hicks, Wyvone Hicks, Evonne Hicks and Eloise Longino, all of Prentiss, Miss. Barbara Gray and husband Amos of Columbus, Ga.; six brothers, Robert Hicks and wife Joyce, James D. Hicks and Gary Longino, all of Prentiss, Miss., Jerry Hicks and wife Dorothy of Utica, Miss., Kenneth Hicks of Jackson, Miss. and Frank Hicks of Slidell, La.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends. Family and friends may call on Friday, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church, 901 E. 5th St. and are invited to attend a funeral service at the church on Saturday, 11 a.m., with Rev. Anthony G. Harris, Pastor, officiating. Interment in Erie Cemetery. Funeralization by House of Law Inc., Penn Hills, Pa.
