John W. (Jack) Deck of Erie and St. Petersburg, Fla., age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Twinbrook Medical Center. He was born July 4, 1928 in Erie the son of the late Ralph and Mary Donovan Deck. Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Donna, and former spouse Patricia Gaden Deck Donaldson, his children, Catherine Deck Saylor (Andy), James Deck (Julia), John Deck (Jeanne), Jennifer Deck Terrana (Don), Dawn King Kaliszewski (Tom), and Kathy King Deist. He is the brother of Mary Ann Deck Clarke, and is also survived by 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother R. Jerry Deck (Mary Jane), and brother-in-law, Paul Clarke. He graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1946. Jack was well known in taverns and clubs throughout the area as a representative of the family business, Deck Beer, and later with Genesee Brewing, Penn Beer, and Erie Beer, retiring in 1990. Jack loved big band and jazz music and enjoyed dancing. He was an avid golfer, loved soaking up the sun, and spending time with his family. His family and friends will greatly miss his ready smile, sense of humor and positive outlook. The family would like to thank Twinbrook Medical Center and Heartland Hospice Services for their compassionate care. Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 695 Smithson Avenue in Lawrence Park on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held in St. Petersburg, FL on April 6, 2013.
