Lawrence L. "Larry" Newton Obituary
Lawrence "Larry" L. Newton, age 69, of North East, died suddenly Thursday, April 4, 2013. He was born on November 27, 1943, in Union City, Pa., to the late Raymond Paul and Helen Rose Griffith Newton Sayban. Larry served in the United States Army Airbourne Ranger from 1961-1964. He was formerly employed at Zurn Industry, in the Energy Division, for 31 years, Al Smith Construction, for 25 years, North East School District, as a custodian, for 10 years, and was currently employed at local car dealerships in North East. Larry was a member of the North East American Legion Post 105, VFW Post 4789, St. Joseph Club, Westfield Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 118 and the Siebenbuerger Club, United Steelworkers Union Local 3199, for 31 years, and a community chairman for Pack 57 Cub Scouts, for 10 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, ERIEZ Speedway, watching North East High School football and really enjoyed visiting family and friends. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by an infant sister and stepfather, Tom Sayban. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kay Rhodes Newton, whom he married May 9, 1964; children, John Newton of North East, David Newton and friend Jennifer Dean of Grove City, Richard Newton and wife Gale of North East, Andrew Newton of Erie; grandchildren, Shane, Cassandra and Zachary Newton; brother, Paul Newton and wife Shirley of Union City; sisters, Phyllis Van Roon of Minnesota, Janet Pichler of California and Charlene Jagta of North East; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East, on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, at 11: 00 a.m., at the funeral home. Rev. Ted Cole will be officiating. Interment will be in North East Cemetery, with full military honors.
