Melena C. Reed-Atkinson, 78, of Erie, passed away on May 25, 2013 in Laurel, Mississippi, at the home of her daughter. Melena was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 28, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Monte Dujuambi and Fannie Mae Bell. Melena was an active member of Bayview Jehovah Witness. She was a retired Headstart Teacher, with more than 32 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Monte Dujue; sister, Mona Sutherland, and two grandchildren. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, William C. Atkinson; three daughters, Lesnie Foster of Roy, Utah, Alverna (Jerry) Beasley, of Laurel, Miss., Allison (George) Lofton-Barlow, of Louin, Miss.; two sons, Alfonso (Catherine) Foster of California, and Kevin Foster, of Erie; three stepsons, Charles (Peggy) Atkinson, Harold Atkinson and Richard Atkinson, all of Erie, and stepdaughter, Hazel (David) Green, of Atlanta, Georgia; and sister, Laquita Wise, of Cleveland, Ohio. She is further survived by nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; also 11 step-grandchildren, 15 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 W. 10th Street, on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and are invited to Services at the Bayview Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, 621 West 2nd Street, on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
