William A. Moffatt, 75, of Girard, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at UPMC Hamot. He was born February 5, 1938 in Lonaconing, Md. His siblings moved to Erie and Pontiac, Mich. during the late 40's and early 50's for work related purposes. The rest of the family moved to Erie in the mid to late 50's.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew P. and Ethel (Ferrens) Moffatt; sisters, Anna Lee (Whiting) and Helen (Davis); brothers, Robert F., and John M.; and son, Steven A. Moffatt.
Survivors include his wife, Marguerite M. (Maggie); daughters, Cheryl Eng (Ken) of Abingdon, Md., Karen Adams (Bob) of Girard, Shirley Ostrowski and Rebecca Moffatt of Erie; and sons William R. (Billy) and Raymond of Erie.
He is further survived by his grandchildren, Matt Drake, Brandon Adams, Andy Moffatt, Jessica Adams, Angela Moffatt, and Alex and Quinton Eng.; great grandchildren, Julian and Rachel Drake; and many nieces and nephews.
Special recognition goes to the Plyler boys; Craig (deceased 2012), Larry, Timmy, Brian and Andy, who are as close to being sons as a man could have.
William served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War
, and was a member of the Girard American Legion Post # 494. He was avid Steelers and Pirates fan whose interests included crafting, woodworking and home improvements.
He worked at Western Stevedoring Co., G.A.F. Corp. in shipping and receiving, Erie Technological Co. in carpentry and maintenance, and Codan Corp., as traffic manager. In 1991 he began his own home repair business until his retirement in 2000.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard, PA 16417. Services will be held there on Friday at 10 a.m. Rev. Jim Rimmer will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will be in the Girard Cemetery.
