Stephen R. Watson Obituary

Stephen R. Watson, age 65, of Main Twp., passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital. A Columbia County resident for five years, he lived most of his life in Girard, Pennsylvania.

Stephen was born in Erie on Wednesday, October 29, 1947. In 1965, he graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School of Girard. Stephen's greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman—enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. He was also an accomplished archery hunter. He was past-president of Tri-Boro Bow Hunters, past-president of the Wednesday Night Bowling League at Lake City Lanes, and a former coach of the Girard Girls Mod I Softball team. For over 25 years, he was employed as a machinist by Ameridrives International in Erie.

In addition to his mother and step-father, Ruth A. (Veiger) and Evan "Erv" Berlin of Girard, Stephen is survived by his three children, Stephen A. Watson of Pittsburgh, Pa., Donald N. Watson and wife, Anita, of Leavittsburg, Ohio, and Nicole C. Watson of Kent, Ohio. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 32 years, Rose "Ruth" (Zeigler) Watson, whom he married on February 14, 1981; and his step-children, Timothy Eaton of West Mifflin, Pa., David Eaton of Girard, and Kimberlee Hyland and husband, Robert of Buffalo, N.Y. Stephen was the grandfather of nine wonderful grandchildren. He is survived by four siblings, Melody E. Berlin of McKean, William "Billy" Watson of Albion, David A. Watson of Pa., and John D. Watson of Ohio. He is survived by three step-siblings, Sheryl R. (Berlin) Fresch of Erie, Daryl H. Berlin of Girard, and Marty J. Berlin of Girard. Additionally, he was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. Stephen was preceded in death by a dear aunt and uncle, Ellen E. (Watson) and her husband, Albert E. Vorse; a step-brother, Brian D. Berlin; and his father, Julius "Shorty" Watson, all of Girard.

Family and friends are welcome to share in a celebration of his life. A memorial luncheon will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Lake City Lanes, 1402 Lake Street, Lake City, Pa.
