Charles Charlie Joseph Sherrange Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Joseph Sherrange, age 90, of North East, died on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at St. Mary's Home East. He was born on May 22, 1923 in North East to the late Dominick and Carrie Federico Sherrange.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Air Force as a B17 engineer mechanic. During his years in active service, Charles received the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars & the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the Four Chaplains, North East VFW Post 4789, and the North East American Legion Post 105, where he formerly served as a service officer and chaplain.

Charlie was formerly employed at Taccone Corporation in Erie, as a plant manager for over 20 years, and enjoyed volunteering at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Along with his late wife, Marianne Amenta Sherrange (October, 22, 2008), he was inducted into the Exchange Club of North East Book of Golden Deeds & the St. Gregory Knights of Columbus Family of the Year Award. Charlie was an active member of St. Gregory Catholic Church, where he faithfully served as an usher, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4262. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Paul Sherrange; and sisters, Mary Ann Post and Josephine Muscarella.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela S. Duggan of Grand Island, N.Y. and Valerie A. Crofoot of North East; a brother, Angelo J. Sherrange of Albany N.Y.; a sister, Sarah Lariccia of Erie; grandchildren, Robert, Heather, & Mark Duggan, Elizabeth Goodban, & Emily and Jonathan Crofoot; great-grandchildren, Paige, Alex, Paul, Shelby, Kaylee, Gavin, June, & Jocelynn; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and brother & sisters-in-law.

Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., until time of a prayer service at noon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at St. Gregory Catholic Church. Interment will be held at St. Gregory Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Memorials may be made to the North East Food Pantry, 30 Bothel Street, or the Knight of Columbus Council 4262, 136 West Main Street North East, PA 16428.
