James O. Bonnell, 85, of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at UPMC Hamot following a short stay at Golden Living. Jim was born in Erie on June 22, 1928 to the late James A. and Dorothy Hunt Bonnell.

Jim was a 1947 graduate of Academy High School and went on to graduate from Gannon College. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Jim was employed for many years at American Sterilizer until his retirement. He attended Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and was an avid high school sports fan. In addition to traveling all over the United States, Jim was a world traveler having explored Europe, South America, the Middle East, and other places with his lifelong friend, Bob Lieder. Jim also enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Findley Lake, New York.

In addition to his friend, Bob Lieder, Jim is survived by several cousins and will be sadly missed by his "adopted family" (the Lieders), along with his dear friends.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, PA 16504 on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and are invited to services there on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
