William Hibbs Carter Obituary

William "Bill" Hibbs Carter, 88, of Union City, died on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Saint Vincent Health Center of Erie, after a brief illness at home complicated by Parkinson's Disease.

He was born Dec. 16, 1925 in Adena, Ohio, a son of the late Harley and Bessie (Hibbs) Carter. He voluntarily served in the U.S. Army 1944-1946 including 6 months winter 1945 shortly after the Battle of the Bulge in World War II in the Central European Campaign as a military policeman in the 6900th Guard Company Rifle SS stationed in Belgium and Germany. He graduated from Indiana Technical College with the degree of BS Mechanical Engineering and completed night school courses on Die Design, Tool Engineering and Ferrous Metallurgy at Fenn College in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked as a mechanical engineer at several companies in Cleveland, Ohio and Erie County, Pennsylvania including most recently Snap-Tite in Union City and Barnes Group Associated Spring (formerly Raymond Spring) in Corry from which he retired in 1991. He lived briefly in Cleveland, Ohio then mostly in Erie, Pennsylvania after marrying. He moved to Union City with his family in 1970 into a new house which he functioned as general contractor for. He attended the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church of Union City for many years. He and his wife toured many places in the Eastern USA. He enjoyed trading in the stock market.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Elaine (Chapin) Carter, in 1985, whom he married April 18, 1959; his sister, Florence Ellen Wright in 1993; and his brother, Harley "Lee" John Carter in 2000.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Carter, of Union City.

Friends may call at Robert M. Glenn Funeral Home Inc., 62 S. Main St., Union City, Sunday, December 29, 2 to 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held there Monday, December 30, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Tom Hunsberger of the Union City Christian & Missionary Alliance Church will officiate.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
