Margaret C. Brei Forness Harrington, age 100, of Erie, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born in Erie on April 6, 1913 a daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Doerner Brei.
Margaret retired in 1975 from Bliley Electric Co., where she worked as a Calibrator for 28 years. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, their craft group, SAGE, the Mercy Center on Aging and the East Erie Turners Auxiliary. She also volunteered at WQLN, and was a Candy Striper at St. Vincent Hospital for a number of years. Margaret enjoyed working puzzles, reading books, baking, tending to her yard, working on crossword puzzles, making crafts, and playing cards with her longtime friends, which she enjoyed into her late 90's.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Forness; her second husband, Eugene Harrington; a son, Ronald J. Forness, Sr.; three sisters, Eleanor Brei, Agnes Russell and Catherine Hoffman and four brothers, Edward, Lawrence, Joseph and August Brei.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Carol Harrington; one granddaughter and four grandsons; many nieces and nephews; great-grandchildren and longtime friends.
Friends may attend a service at Calvary Mausoleum on January 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen and the Erie City Mission.
