Vesta E. Goodwin, age 92, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Chautauqua County Home. Residence was formerly Harborcreek Township. She was born in Alexander County, N.C., a daughter of the late Curvie P. and Carrie L. Flowers Lail.

Mrs. Goodwin lived in the Erie area since 1946. She had served in the Women's Army Corps during WWII. She was employed by the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, as the food service supervisor for 17 years, until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Welseyville Baptist Church, where she was very active with the American Baptist Women's Ministries. She was a member of the Gospel Hill Garden Club, the Wesleyville Keenagers, and the Harborcreek Merry Mixers. Her hobbies included: gardening, sewing and crafting.

Widow of Edward L. Goodwin, to whom she was married 41 years. She was also preceded in death by three sisters: Ethlyn Bass, Christine Lail, and Jeanette Gilbert, and four brothers: Clarence, Frank, Royd, and James Lail.

Survivors include one daughter: Linda Orr (Willis) of Mayville, N.Y., two sons: Kenneth Goodwin (Jackie) of Mena, Arkansas, and James Goodwin (Karen) of Allegheny, N.Y., one sister: Hazel Hubbard of Taylorville, N.C., two brothers, Clyde Lail (Wilma) of Hickory, N.C., and Jack Lail (Betty) of New London, N.C., 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home East, 2607 Buffalo Road, on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Further visitation will take place at the Wesleyville Baptist Church on Wednesday from 12 noon until the time of the Funeral Service there at 1 p.m., with Rev. Mark McCallion, officiating. Interment will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
