"Proud to Be an American"

Lawrence L. "Boomer" Grove, age 70, of Erie, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in Erie on December 2, 1943, a son of the late Walter "Bud" and Jean Trohoske Grove.

He graduated from Strong Vincent High School. He then served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. After being discharged, he became a Firefighter for the Erie Fire Department for 35 years, retiring in 2004. After retirement, he always said "I have six Saturdays and one Sunday." He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, the South Erie Turners, the Siebenbuerger Club, VFW Post 470, and the American Legion. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, NASCAR, and especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Bolte Grove, three sons, Larry Wade Grove (Robyn) of Erie, Ben Grove (Christine) of Altoona, Pa., and MSgt. Dustin Grove (Jennifer) of Little Rock, Ark., a stepdaughter, Kate Pisano (fiancé Jason Dolak) of Pittsburgh, two stepsons, Christopher Pisano (Rebecca) of Ecuador and Jeffrey Pisano (SooAnn) of Washington, D.C., two brothers, Walter "Jack" Grove (Kathy) of Saegertown, Dave Grove (Debbie) of Erie, three sisters, Pat Green (Ken) of Wattsburg, Barb Harvey of Harborcreek and Betty Irwin (Roger) of Erie. Ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call on Thursday at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 Sassafras St., Erie, PA 16502, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Friday, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, at 10 a.m. Send condolences to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com.
