George Edward McFarland, age 84, of Millcreek, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2014, after a short illness. He was born in Franklin, Pa., on March 17, 1930, son of the late Chester and Florence Stokes McFarland.
George graduated from Lawrence Park High School, class of 1948. Through the years, George had been employed by General Electric, Presque Isle Plastics, Zurn Industry, and retired from the Lord Corporation after 18 years of service, George served in the Pennsylvania National Guard and in the US Air Force, as a radio operator and instructor, during the Korean War
. George was very proud of his service to his country, and talked often of the parts of the world that he was fortunate to see during that time. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and being out in God's wonderful outdoors. George took pleasure in watching and feeding the abundant wildlife that frequented his back yard year-round. He enjoyed weekends at his Camp My Dog Tired. You could always find him reading a good Western and listening to country music.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife Doris Mae McFarland, in March 2011, whom he married on May 18th, 1957, two sisters, Janice Krizek and Sandra Chrispen, and two brothers, Thomas and Dennis McFarland.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Lisa Ann McFarland of Millcreek; one son, Timothy Alan McFarland and his wife Kathy also of Millcreek; grandson, Shawn Nicholas McFarland, of whom he was very proud. He is also survived by a sister Susan and her husband Gary Guianen; numerous nieces and nephews and special family members, Kim and Doug Ell and son Brandon of St. Peters, Missouri
George requested no calling hours and wished that others would remember the happier days of his life. A graveside service, with full Military Honors, will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pastor Jim Hodge will officiate, and friends and family are welcome to attend. Arrangements are under the care of the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, PA 16504
