Florence E. (Dolly) Priebe Obituary

Florence E. "Dolly" Priebe, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the residence of her daughter in Waterford, Pa., after a three and a half year battle with breast cancer. Dolly was born in Harborcreek on October 18, 1938, to Charles Wicks Murphy and Hazel (McCurdy) Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Priebe. Dolly lived in North East for 45 years, before recently moving to Springhill Senior Living Community in 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Tuckman) Ford (Gary), of Waterford, four stepchildren, Stephen Priebe of Dublin, Calif., Jonathan Priebe (Lisa Baumgardner), of Harborcreek, Susan Spallino (Jim), of Rocky River, Ohio, and Eric Priebe (Lynette Jacobs-Priebe), of Oakmont, Pa.

She is further survived by grandchildren, Logan Ford, Hayden Ford, and Christian Ford, and step-grandchildren Danielle Priebe, Allison Priebe, Vaughn Priebe, Lindsay Priebe, Will Spallino, Jamie Spallino, and two step-great-grandchildren, Mason Gardner and Alayna Read. She is also survived by one brother, James Murphy (Christina) of Lakewood, N.Y.

Dolly graduated from Harborcreek High School in 1956, and Edinboro State Teachers College in 1959, with her teaching degree. She taught children in Ohio, the Philadelphia area, New Jersey, and then in the Harborcreek School District, for 35 years.

She loved to sing, travel, cook and read. Dolly sang many years in the North East Choral Club. She was very active at Park United Methodist Church, where for many years she did the kitchen snacks for VBS, and coordinated the Soup and Salad Luncheon. Taught Sunday School for Parkside residents, as well as, leading some Disciple Studies. Dolly was a member of a Covenant Discipleship Group and many Bible Studies. She was always a faithful compassionate presence in the life of the church. She was also very active with the Order of the Eastern Star. Dolly served 13 years on the McCord Memorial Library board, and 6 years on the Erie County Library Board. She and Ed saw much of the world in their travels, visiting over 27 countries on 5 continents.

Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, Pa., on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend funeral services on Thursday at 11 a.m., at the Park United Methodist Church, 30 N. Lake St., North East, Pa. Rev. Eric C. Leonard, will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery.

Shiloh Chapter #153 Order of Eastern Star, will conduct services at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Park United Methodist Church, 30 N.
